On Saturday, 10th August, the Ethiopian Community in Britain, in partnership with the High Gate Black Women’s Wellness Group, hosted a vibrant Summer Holiday Ethiopian Cultural Drop-In event at 2A Lithos Rd, Hampstead, London. This special event was designed to celebrate Ethiopian culture and offered a variety of engaging activities for children aged 3 to 12.
Throughout the day, young participants enjoyed a range of cultural arts and crafts, immersed themselves in the traditional Ethiopian storytelling known as Teret Teret, and danced along to musical statues set to Ethiopian music. The event provided a wonderful opportunity for children to connect with their cultural roots in a fun and interactive way.
The High Gate Black Women’s Wellness Group, which was created during the COVID-19 pandemic by Zia Teshome, played a key role in organizing this event. The group was founded to address the need for in-person support among black women in inner London, offering activities that foster social connections and community building. Zia’s vision has continued to grow, creating inclusive spaces where culture and community are celebrated.
The Summer Holiday Ethiopian Cultural Drop-In was a successful and joyous occasion, bringing together children and families to celebrate the richness of Ethiopian culture in a supportive and welcoming environment.
