Ethiopian passport holders are required to obtain a Schengen visa to enter the Netherlands. Here’s a general guide on the visa requirements and process:

  1. Types of Visa

– Short-Stay Schengen Visa (Type C)  For tourism, family visits, business, or short stays up to 90 days within a 180-day period.

– Long-Stay Visa (MVV): For stays longer than 90 days, such as for work, study, or family reunification.

 

  1. Documents Required for a Schengen Short-Stay Visa:

– Visa application form  Completed and signed.

– Passport: Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond the intended stay, issued within the last 10 years, and have at least two blank pages.

– Two passport-sized photos: Recent, in line with Schengen photo requirements.

– Travel itinerary: A detailed itinerary including round-trip flight reservations and proof of accommodation (hotel reservations, invitation letter from a host, etc.).

– Proof of travel medical insurance: Coverage of at least €30,000 for medical emergencies, hospitalization, and repatriation across the Schengen area.

– Proof of sufficient financial means: Bank statements, payslips, or proof of sponsorship indicating the ability to cover expenses during the stay.

– Proof of ties to Ethiopia: This can include an employment contract, property ownership, or a letter from your employer.

– Invitation letter (if applicable): If staying with a family member or friend, an invitation letter may be required.

– Cover letter: Explaining the purpose of the trip and travel plan.

– Proof of visa fee payment: Schengen visa fee, which is generally around €80 for adults.

 

  1. Additional Requirements for Specific Purposes:

– Business trip: Invitation from the Dutch company, proof of business relationships, and details of the trip.

– Tourism: Proof of accommodation and planned activities.

– Family visit: Invitation letter from the host, proof of relationship, and host’s residence permit or passport.

– Study or training: Admission letter from the educational institution.

 

  1. Application Process:

– Submit the application at the Netherlands Visa Application Center (VAC) in Ethiopia or directly at the Dutch Embassy in Addis Ababa.

– Attend the visa interview (if required) and provide biometrics (fingerprints).

– Visa processing time: Generally between 15 to 30 days, depending on the type of visa and the time of year.

 

  1. Visa Fees:

– Short-stay Schengen visa: €80 for adults and €40 for children (6-12 years).

– Long-stay visa (MVV): Fees vary depending on the purpose of stay.

 

  1. Where to Apply:

– Dutch Embassy in Ethiopia: The Embassy of the Netherlands in Addis Ababa handles visa applications.

– Visa Application Centers (VACs): Managed by external service providers like VFS Global.
